This piece is an example of the contrasting elements I often incorporate into my work - a highly distressed canvas with vibrant, bold color progressions. For 'His Prize' I used a variety of materials on the canvas for mark making and textual call outs of our messy, human nature. But that of course is not what the viewer initially sees. Much like grace, the top layer of highly textured brush stroked cover the distress beneath it all. What I want to say is that we can be seen as beautiful even in our imperfection - a treasure to still be won.
